Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a surveillance technology in which aircraft determine their position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcast it, enabling them to be tracked. The aircraft transmits information including its identification, current position, altitude, and velocity approximately once per second. This data is received by ground-based ADS-B receivers connected to the OpenSky Network. The key advantage of ADS-B over traditional radar is its higher accuracy, faster update rate, and lower cost of implementation. Most commercial aircraft, many private jets, and increasingly general aviation aircraft are equipped with ADS-B transponders for improved safety and tracking.

Data Processing & Display

When ADS-B signals are received by ground stations, they are forwarded to OpenSky Network servers where the data is processed, validated, and correlated. Our system fetches this data via API endpoints and renders it on an interactive map interface using the Leaflet mapping library. Each aircraft is displayed as a marker with color-coded altitude information for quick visual reference. It is also received by other aircraft to provide situational awareness and allow self-separation. Our flight radar aggregates data from a network of hundreds of ADS-B receivers contributed by volunteers around the world through the OpenSky Network. Each receiver picks up the broadcast signals from aircraft within its range and forwards the data to our servers. The range of a typical ground receiver is about 400 kilometers depending on the antenna height and terrain. Aircraft at cruising altitude are visible from much greater distances than those at lower altitudes, which is why flights are often tracked from takeoff to landing across long distances.

Data Processing & Visualization

Once raw ADS-B data is received, our system processes it through several stages before displaying it on the radar map. The data is first decoded to extract aircraft identification, position, altitude, velocity, and other parameters. Duplicate data from multiple receivers is merged and the most accurate position is calculated using multilateration techniques when multiple receivers detect the same aircraft simultaneously. The processed data is then correlated with flight information databases to overlay additional details such as airline, flight number, origin, destination, aircraft type, and estimated time of arrival. Why can't I see some flights on the radar?

Some flights may not appear on the radar for several reasons. Some older aircraft may not be equipped with ADS-B transponders, though this is becoming less common as global regulations mandate ADS-B installation. Aircraft flying below radar coverage due to terrain or distance from receivers may not be visible. Is the flight tracker mobile-friendly?

Narrow-Body Aircraft

Narrow-body aircraft are the workhorses of Pakistan's domestic and regional international routes. Offer Acceptance & Contract Review

Upon successful selection by the employer, you receive a formal job offer and employment contract.
